Agriculture plays an import role in the non oil export as one of the biggest contributors to this sector of the economy. But for successful export activities you need exact knowledge about the consumer demands abroad, the market structures and competitors. IEOM supports the business of agricultural production.

Our areas of focus within the agricultural value chain includes but not limited to the following:

  • Training in crop production: We work with under-served smallholder farmers who are the primary producers of commodities such as Rice, Cassava, Cocoa, Palm oil, Maize, etc; by organizing them into functional rural farmers cooperatives so they can negotiate farming input at a reasonable price.


  • Contract farming: This is the practice in agricultural development, whereby a contract between a farmer or group of farmers (cooperatives) and a purchaser (off-taker) has been established in advance to the growing season for a specific quantity, quality, and date of delivery of an agricultural output at an agreed price. The contract provides the farmer with the assured market of the crop and at times provides for technical assistance, credit services or inputs from the purchaser. Our primary motivation for smallholder farmers to enter into a contract farming arrangement is the promise of a steady and increased income from having an assured market which will eventually lead to expansion of production capacity.


  • Distribution as well as marketing: Linkage to Bulk buyers (off-takers)/ overseas supplies: The smallholder farmers are linked into global value chains through agro commodities sourcing and overseas market supply as a strategy for an export-led economic diversification. At IEOM, We believe that helping smallholder farmers to increase their yields can increase their income and improve their livelihood.


  • Farm Auditing and Preparation for certification: Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) are voluntary audits that verify that agricultural products (such as fruits and vegetables) are produced, packed, handled, and stored as safely as possible to minimize risks of food safety hazards. We guide farmers who are willing to produce to meet international market requirements; we prepare farmers for certification (mandatory and voluntary) process through farm auditing and trainings

  • Farm/Agribusiness Management: This program is designed for farmers to increase their knowledge and understanding of agricultural business principles for sound farm business management and decision making. The training provides farmers instruction for improved record keeping, farm analysis, and cash flow monitoring e.g. NAEC

Nigeria Agricultural Enterprise Curriculum (NAEC), Aquaculture:

would enable farmers to manage their farms as a business through the adoption and effective use of best business practices. The curriculum aims to:

    • Enhance the understanding and awareness of basic business concepts;
    • Introduce the concept of value chains development and the role of key players;
    • Provide practical methods and techniques for planning, income projection, risk management, debt management, savings, and profit maximization;
    • Strengthen participants’ financial management skills.
  • Aquaculture production and Fish processing: Aquaculture is playing a key role in many emerging economies including Nigeria; it has the potential to contribute to increased food production while helping to reduce poverty and unemployment. The Aquaculture Production training covers setting up and running your own profitable small-scale or large-scale fish farm. We have experts who will train you on farm development, tank design, hatchery management, grow out production, feeding procedures, disease prevention, and more. The focus species are African catfish and Tilapia.


  • Fish processing training: We believe that the need for the development of fish preservation and processing machinery and techniques for effective fish handling, harvesting, processing and storage can never be over-emphasized. The will cover how to select and process fish for the most marketable product. From choosing the right sizes, to marketing options and preparing your final product, this training will teach you to get the most out of your fish for your final product. The training will incorporate the use of our improved Smoking Kiln technology which will go a long way in enhancing fish farmers and fisher folks’ productivity and profitability as well as prevent post harvest losses. The improved Smoking Kiln technology enables users to produce good quality and highly competitive smoked dried fish for local consumption and international markets.

New market opportunities and technologies are helping agribusiness increase efficiency and cut costs. But government regulations, historical practices, and poor training can slow the gains already recorded. Agribusiness leaders must find new answers to these challenges.
